On Saturday, March 9, I lost my closest longtime friend, Jerry (J D) Lambright, to a sudden and aggressive cancer.  As best buds through PHS, we lived only 2 blocks apart.  I got him started in ham radio.  We both went to Texas Tech to major in electrical engineering and were college roommates for nearly four years.

Throughout most of our years since college graduation we've kept in touch.  But since 2005, we've talked monthly if not weekly.  J D had a true gift of being able to excel at anything he felt was important to him; he never approached anything halfway.  He distinguished himself in three different career fields: as a geophysicist, as a private attorney, and as an elected official the last 7 years.

I have been honored to have had him as a friend and mentor over the last 54 years.  I was blessed to be at his side with his lovely wife Belinda when he took his last breath.  We'll all miss this guy who had such a heart for life, was incredibly witty, and always endeavored to serve others.

Something you might not know - on Saturday several hours after J D's passing, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered all flags at government offices in Montgomery County to be lowered to half mast in honor of J D and a flag flew over the State Capitol in his honor.  This week his Bio is being read on the Texas House and Senate floor.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, March 18 in Conroe.  Here's the link to his obituary at Cashner Funeral Home: https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/conroe-tx/jerry-lambright-8199188

Rusty, a beautiful story about a fun guy and your dear close friend. I met Jerry in band at PJH. He also had a big smile and a great laugh. Rest in Peace Jerry.
